Costa Rica Hotels Resorts and Lodges, South Pacific Region

If you are looking for an adventurous trip, the South Pacific region is the place to visit. There you will experience nature in its ultimate expression. Alive, exuberant, vigorous nature in each detail of a wild life still unaltered by man. Foaming blue sea, prismatic waters full of turquoise reflections, and blunt waves that slide over the white and gray sands. A sea from other times, when life slipped by with the tranquillity and happiness of the birds that cut through skies full of white and fleeting clouds. Islands, beaches, trails, sloths, monkeys, tapirs, felines and ferns are mixed together with the magical colors of the flowers.

The South Pacific Region possesses all of this and more. It is an area that extends from the Baru River to the borders of Panama, and from the Talamanca's mountains to the pacific coast.

You can also visit the private reserves, some of these reserves are Campanario, Las Cruces Biological Station, Genesis II and Mapache Lodge.

From San Jose, it will take you about six hours to get to this region by way of the Interamerican Highway. It is recommended that you travel by 4-wheel drive. You may also choose to take an international flight to Golfito's airport, and then drive around the region.

In the South Pacific Region, you will find Cerro Chirripo at 3,820 meters above sea level, the highest point in Costa Rica.

According to scientists, the Golfo Dulce constitutes a real "tropical fjord" whose mass of water is unique in America. This gulf, which various rainforest rivers flow into, shelters great expanses of mangroves.

More than 68 species have been identified in its rich marine life. Of those that stand out, are 16 types of crustaceans, 50 variations of snails and shellfish and a large quantity of marine birds and species of dolphins. Hundreds of bottlenose and spotted dolphins play in the depths of the gulf, which is also visited frequently by the hunch whales and false orcas visiting in search of food.
